Today is day zero on the schedule....so was yesterday sub zero? All went smoothly yesterday - hooked up for a rental car drive from Portland to Astoria with two gentlemen from Conneticut who ride together. I won't be seeing them until the end of the day, by the look of 'em. The three of us were eyeballing the drive since it's the same route out of Astoria. Long climbs ahead. One of them (Steve) has done the Ride the Mississippi ride with this same company and says they do a good job. And so far, they have. Very organized check in, my bike got put together smoothly, the room has a great view of the Columbia river and had a great Mexican meal for dinner. Life is good.
Today I have already hooked up with some people to ride to the Coast to dip our wheels in. I have to go by the local bike shop first to pick up CO2 cartridges. There will be 65 riders doing the whole thing, 10 more joining us in segments along the way. There is a dad, mom and 8 year old riding this on a three seater. Three tandems that I've seen so far, and a father and 22 year old daughter. Everyone so far has been really nice. Probably because we haven't started riding yet. Formal orientation starts at 3:30 (but I didn't bring a gown!!!). They are really being strict with the weight of the bags. I hope I can shift things around successfully. As I end this, I would like to thank my friends and family for all your support and encouragement along the way. I carry you with me. But only if you weigh less than 35 pounds.

Hey, cool blog! I hope your first day of riding goes well. It sounds like there is a good group with you. I'm impressed an 8 year-old is along for the ride- - or maybe that his parents are willing to pull him along for the ride!!
Looking forward to keeping up with you. Love, Aleta
35 pounds - wow! ...looks like you'll be drinking wine from a box for now :-) You're an excellent uphill rider so teach the others a thing or two. The group sounds varied and interesting - you'll surely have fun. Keep us blogged and we'll be 'pumping' for you. Love, Tenley
